Welcome to the Cumsewogue Historical Society

“The place where many paths meet”Pond at Terryville, L.I.

The Cumsewogue Historical Society is dedicated to promoting and preserving the local history of Terryville and Port Jefferson Station.

The Cumsewogue Historical Society which was started in 2008, and chartered by the State of New York in 2009, to preserve the history of Port Jefferson Station (Native American name–Cumsewogue-then for a time called Echo) and the hamlet of Terryville, New York.

Why is knowledge of local history important? Rather than addressing the grand scheme so often found in a textbook, it addresses the nuts and bolts of how we got to this point and, to a greater or lesser extent, how we might get to the next.
